Bio
SPIRITWO BIO:
Singer/songwriter Yael Claire started performing 6 years back in Tel Aviv, accompanied by wild vocal range, picturesque lyrics, theatrical persona, and a kickass attitude … Celebrating many extremes of the human spirit, a variety of dualities , or in many cases – a voice that we hide – a second spirit- a SPIRITWO.
Being influenced by musicians that created challenging music ,flirting with mainstream pop – such as the multimedia artist Laurie Anderson, extravagant pop-rock idols Cardiacs & Faith No More – SPIRITWO create individual tunes, that includes both sparkly light and deep dark feel, crafted into a pop track.
Starting out in the Underground scene of Tel Aviv, performing both solo/theatric electronic gigs at clubs, AND with a full band on Radio 106, Fashion Week, and Levontin 7, SPIRITWO been coined by Time Out Tel Aviv – ‘The Queen of Tel Aviv Underground’ & was embraced by Organ Magazine in London releasing her first single in 2007. That single was reviewed by Huw Stephens & Stuart Maconie (Radio 6), Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) Rock Show in California, Resonance FM & XFM.
SPIRITWO headlined London clubs the same year in Madame Jojo’s, Hoxton Square, & 93 Feet east.
Before Yael Claire’s final move to London in the end of 2007, SPIRITWO’s Bass player Igor Guelman Zak, a key figure in SPIRITWO and a devoted close friend (who already lived in London) tragically died. Yael Claire decided to move to London alone, pursuing the dreams of Igor and herself, starting the project from scratch, performing Solo.
In no more than 3 months Yael Claire to make a new big impact on the East London arts scene, having been invited to perform at events such as Fashion Week together with PYMCA (feb 2008), Punch Drunk ‘Afters’ at the BAC (jan 2008) and ANDREW LOGAN’S Wales exhibition. The huge wigs she used in her Solo electro sets, together with her ever changing voice and theatric skills got SPIRITWO known, for performing and hosting in a plethora of cutting edge platforms and queer events across London such as Ladyfest 2008 – 2010 & “Behind Bars” . SPIRITWO participated in the The Leader of the Starry Skies Tribute Album For Tim Smith – Cardiacs’ Frontman, which also included performances by Knifeworld, The Magic Numbers, Oceansize & Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) .
Soon SPIRITWO Band got back on track - headlined Hackney Wicked Festival 2010 and 2011 with their powerful theatrical live show. SPIRITWO are now a bolder band, surprising with their Bled of Wild Cabaret and Epic Rock, mixing Hard Rock, Electro and Middle Eastern music.
SPIRITWO current members are: Charlie Cawood on Guitar, Rummy Keshet on Bass, Matt Riley on Drums and Yael Claire on Vocals.
Working on their new EP, ’PRIMITIVE TWINSHIP’, their new tracks are already popular with Amazing Radio, and their live shows gaining more recognition as they perform with the influential Martin Rev (from SUICIDE, NYC), and leading Berlin’s famous venue ’White Trash’ .
SPIRITWO’s charismatic show is engaging with every audience blending both humor and fright that make all hearts & feet jump!
…’One moment feisty electro, then Middle Eastern vocals creep in and all coiled into a tight punk rock aesthetic rooted in Mr Bungle and Cardiacs’.
YAEL CLAIRE TALKS ABOUT SPIRITWO:
“The SPIRITWO thing started as an experiment in singing/songwriting & turned into a lifestyle:
Emerging as a wacky singer/performer at nights in underground clubs. In the daytime some people would recognize me despite of the hairstyles and the dramatic aperences on stage – some would recognize me by my VOICE, and some woud never connect the PHENOMENON on stage to the ordinary girl who i am. This combination of the ‘TWO’ of us – can confuse some people, but i guess i’ll always remain that HYPERACTIVE ARTISTIC TOMBOY with some ‘burts’ of a Diva….Whatever it is – its got to be ALIVE – and in your face – kind of SCARY but deep… and funny TOO:-)…
i don’t know, sounds resonable to me…. hope you will enjoy the tunes and performances
”
xxx Yael Claire.
